Rumor: Ben Affleck will not play Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming film

0

Another day, another rumor that Ben Affleck is not playing Batman. That’s not a repeat from February… And no, it’s not a repeat from July either. This rumor was buried in a story we covered just a few hours ago.

In the Heat Vision piece about Warner Bros. pursuing Leonardo Dicaprio to play The Joker, The Hollywood Reporter’s Kim Masters and Borys Kit mention the following info late in their report:

War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves is developing a Batman stand-alone that, according to sources, will not star Ben Affleck, who plays the caped crusader in the DC Universe movies (Warners and Affleck have denied he is being replaced).

According to various reports earlier this week, Ben Affleck is interested in directing the war film Red Platoon, which could star his younger brother Casey. Given Affleck’s ebb and flow of enthusiasm for playing Batman over the last year, it wouldn’t be surprising if he did hang up the cape and cowl after Justice League.

But give it another week or so. I’m sure the winds will change and we can have more will-he-or-won’t-he Batman rumors to ponder. Personally, I think Affleck should step away from Batman and do work he’s more passionate about and invested in. But what do you think, my old friend? Come talk with us below in the comments.
