Rumor: Live action Kiki’s Delivery Service

0

Again, this is a rumor coming from Twitch Film. Don’t be too hasty about this being true or not.

So Twitch was told that Japanese horror director Takashi Shimizu (Ju-On and The Grudge) has come on board to direct a live action adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s fantasy animated film, Kiki’s Delivery Service.

In a quick nutshell, Kiki’s Delivery Service tells about the story of a young witch who has to be a year away from home to prove her independence. So she moves to the city, and uses her powers to start a courier service and make a living.

Kiki’s Delivery Service was very well received back in 1989, but isn’t one of the generally well-known films that Hayao Miyazaki has done. Practically everyone knows about My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, but this is still as good as any of his other films. But to adapt Kiki’s Delivery Service into a live action film is still somewhat of an odd choice, especially with the choice to have Shimizu direct the film because he has only done horror films.

Like I said earlier, this is a rumor that is starting to go around. I personally wouldn’t want a live-action adaptation of any of Miyazaki’s film, but that is just me. What does everyone else think?
