Sam Raimi suggests more Evil Dead could be summoned soon

There seems to be no keeping The Evil Dead franchise down!

The Chosen One himself, Bruce Campbell, has retired from the role of Ashley J. Williams, but it seems that there could be more Evil Dead heading for the big screen sooner rather than later. Not only is the franchise still alive, but Sam Raimi has added to the fire stating that “I’d love to make another one. I don’t think TV is in its future but we’re talking about – Bruce [Campbell], Rob [Tapert] and myself – one or two different ways to go for the next movie,” and “We’d like to make another Evil Dead feature and in fact we’re working on some ideas right now.” The fact that they intend to look into making a movie instead of another TV series is exciting. Ash vs Evil Dead was a fantastic show, but it has been far too long since an Evil Dead sequel has graced the big screen.

As for how they plan to navigate that with the series lead gone, well Raimi had some interesting thoughts on that.

“I would be thrilled if Bruce Campbell changed his mind about retirement, would come back for the original Evil Dead line,” Raimi said. “But if not, I’m very happy to work with, if Fede [Álvarez] would come back and make the sequel… but he’s such a big shot now. He’s so successful, an artist in demand, that I don’t think he’d want to do that.”

Any Evil Dead fan would be thrilled if Bruce Campbell decided to end his retirement from the role of Ash, but he seemed sincere in his wish to retire. The man can only be covered in gallons of fake blood for so long. It’s good to know that the team behind Evil Dead is willing to move forward with the property in another capacity. The 2013 Evil Dead was a fantastic reimagining and is a great example of how to explore the familiar ground and adding new elements that stay true to the original. Most fans would be more than happy to see a continuation of Fede Alvarez’s reboot storyline.

As for when we can expect more news regarding the next installment Raimi said: “So I think you may see some action on the Evil Dead movie in the next six months,”. Whatever shape the new Evil Dead takes I’m game.
