Sam Taylor-Johnson directing 50 Shades of Grey

Amidst wild speculation that almost no one in our websites demographic cared about one name has arisen to the top of the pile in the hunt for a director for the 50 Shades of Grey movie. That name is Sam Taylor-Johnson. You can all relax now and return to reading better books.

This will be Taylor-Johnson’s first bigger film as a director though some might know her from the excellent John Lennon pic Nowhere Boy. What’s most impressive about this choice is that Hollywood actually got a female director to make a movie that’s going to be directed at a female audience. I know, totally novel idea, right? I’m not super excited about seeing the film, but if Taylor-Johnson can bring some quality and intensity to the putridness of 50 Shades of Grey it might turn out OK.
