Samurai Jack creator Genndy Tartakovsky to get back, back to the past with Adult Swim series Primal

Following a successful event series that used a more mature take on Samurai Jack for Adult Swim, the creative genius responsible for shaping most Cartoon Network fans’ childhoods will be working on a brand new series.

Genndy Tartakovsky, the man also responsible for Dexter’s Laboratory and Powerpuff Girls, intends to show a little more tooth and claw with Primal, a half-hour action adventure that focuses on a bond of friendship between a caveman at the dawn of evolution and a dinosaur at the brink of extinction. A tragedy brings the two together to survive in a violent, primordial world.

That all sounds pretty great to me. A dinosaur-mounted caveman bringing bow and spear against whatever horrors await in the prehistoric wastes of earth ranks very high on the rad-o-meter.

I was leery at first of Adult Swim’s Samurai Jack adaptation since adult spins for kids’ shows are usually terrible (looking at you Ren and Stimpy), but Tarakovsky’s work was excellent, and I’m excited to see just what he’ll do with a show made from scratch for his now grown-up fanbase.
