Schwarzenegger to crush his enemies as Conan once more

Deadline reports that Universal is set to reboot the Conan franchise again with The Legend of Conan and personally I couldn’t be happier. You know why? Because Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to once again play the awesome badass Conan! Sadly/Humorously meaning that we won’t be seeing anymore of Jason Momoa or his own written sequels

The reboot will hereby ignore Conan‘s original sequel (Conan the Destroyer) and will be a sequel to the events of the first Conan with Fredrick Malmberg and Chris Morgan set to produce. Malmberg also dished out some nice plot details for the upcoming awesomeness:

The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make…It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.

This sort of plot feels like it fits the aging Schwarzenegger perfectly. Since he’s not in the best shape now, this could be a good sendoff for Conan in the same manner Sylvester Stallone sent off his character Rocky Balboa in Rocky Balboa (the aging hero gets one last bout in). For those of you still hesitant about the idea, Chris Morgan has a few very refreshing words:

After the original seminal movie, all that came after looked silly to me…Robert E. Howard’s mythology and some great philosophy from Nietzsche to Atilla the Hun was layered in the original film. People say, he didn’t speak for the first 20 minutes of the film, but that was calculated in depicting this man who takes control of life with his own hand. This movie picks up Conan where Arnold is now in his life, and we will be able to use the fact that he has aged in this story. I love the property of Conan so much that I wouldn’t touch it unless we came up with something worthy. We think this is a worthy successor to the original film. Think of this as Conan’s Unforgiven.

The producers know we have doubts about Schwarzenegger’s current state, but they seem to respect the material enough to once again let Schwarzengger be the badass he once was. Now’s the perfect time to do so given his current badass revival. The Legend of Conan is prepping for a Summer 2014 release and will most likely crush all other films and drag them all before it.
