Carrie Fisher’s death has made me contemplative and somber. Yesterday I hoped she’d have pulled through, and would eventually talk about her experience with her all Force, zero f**ks attitude. The world will miss her so much.
2016 has been one of those particularly tragic years for many reasons, and not just because of the number of beloved artists, entertainers, and cultural figures who’ve passed, and what their passing means to their fans. So many wonderfully inventive, defiant, iconoclastic people gone in one year. There’s a lot going on politically and internationally and individually that’s given many people pause as well. And in that pause, I sometimes go back in time.
While looking up videos and news items on Fisher, I stumbled onto this set of City Lights interviews from 1977. In it, a young Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford talk about acting and Star Wars, not quite knowing where their careers would go or what the film would do for their stardom.
It’s strange. All I could think watching this was, “Gosh, that was so long ago.”
