Simpsons Movie sequel not happening for a long, long time

This news may not seem like a big deal to most of you, but this is heavy stuff for the remaining ten or so fans of The Simpsons (including myself and Matty Shoestring). The Simpsons Movie released six years ago and made a bajillion dollars, but that doesn’t mean we’re getting another one any time soon. At a UCLA conference, Matt Groening (creator of The Simpsons) stated “it took us four years [to make] and it killed us” and that its production “stole animators from the show.” David Silverman added that we won’t see another one for “maybe another 10, 15 years.”

And although a Simpsons Movie sequel has been a  running joke (recently noted in Futurama), it hurts to see it get shot down so much. I’m sure I’m probably one of the two people who loved it and still religiously watch the TV program, so I’m probably the only one who would like a follow up. As sad as this is, I’ll try and look at the positives. First of all, kudos for not grabbing all of the easy money. Second of all, I’d rather wait until the series is over for another Simpsons Movie. It’d be a nice note to go out on. Hopefully, I won’t have to deal with that for “another 10, 15 years.”
