Slayer Abe has a fresh face for Vampire Hunter

A couple of weeks back, we told you that casting was well on its way for Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The small pool of men competing to don Lincoln’s top hat included some known names, like Adrian Brody, but from the majority of young unknowns, it was pretty clear Fox wanted a new star for this newfangled history. Variety reports that newcomer Benjamin Walker has been picked to play alternative Abe in the adaptation of  Seth Grahame-Smith’s graphic novel, in which the president leads a fight against undead anti-confederates.

Walker has a history with presidential pantomime, playing the lead in the stage production of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson on Broadway. The American actor had to be nothing less than a rock star for the play, and clearly Fox thinks he can bring the same bravado to the big screen. Walker’s other notable credits include Kinsey, Flags of Our Fathers, and The War Boys. Rumour once had it that Eric Bana would step into the role. Looks like they went with Bana the Younger. Am I wrong?
