Emma Stone started out making several small appearances in TV shows like Medium and Malcolm in the Middle, followed by a minor role on the ill-fated Fox series Drive. It was in 2007’s smash hit Superbad where she really got to shine as Jules, the romantic interest of Jonah Hill’s character, Seth. Stone followed up on Superbad's success with meatier roles in movies like The Rocker, The House Bunny, and Zombieland. 2010 saw her tackle her first lead role in Easy A, where she got to stand on her own two feet as the film’s utterly delightful, faux-promiscuous lead character Olive.

Stone takes the freckled redhead archetype to the next level. We’ve all watched Lindsay Lohan’s very public downward spiral into the darkest recesses of Hollywood vice, so it’s nice to have such a gorgeous girl around to inherit the throne of Top Ginger. Sure, word on the street is that she’s a natural blonde, but to that I say, “Pics or it didn’t happen!” Regardless of whether or not her hair color comes from a bottle, she makes it work. I don’t know what else to say about the red locks, creamy skin, and freckles without being crude, but add a smile that can light up a room and Emma Stone is a, pardon the pun, stone-cold fox. And that dorky laugh of hers? I firmly believe that every time she laughs, an angel gets its wings.

Every guy loves a down-to-earth girl, and Emma Stone really seems like the kind that you could just hang out and play video games or quote Apatow movies with. Not only does she seem like a real guy’s girl, she has a very obvious sense of intelligence, incredible comedic ability, and above all else, believability. All these things are apparent in the characters she plays.

As far as playing believable characters go, Stone has had it down from the beginning. Unlike other recent teen films, her characters in Superbad, The Rocker, and Easy A feel like real high school students, as opposed to speaking in obscure slang that even my sixteen year old sister thinks is ridiculous. This is especially true in Easy A. She is funny and charming at the same time as she sizzles in those provocative outfits she wears throughout the movie.

She’s also shown a knack for dramatic roles, as we saw in 2009’s indie dramedy Paper Man, where she starred alongside Jeff Daniels. Her portrayal of a slightly damaged teenager helped show her range. That is reassuring, because a lot of actresses become pigeonholed rather quickly these days.

If there’s one surefire route for an actress to worm their way into my heart, it’s through a horde of zombies. Emma Stone did this expertly as Zombieland’s resident tough-as-nails con artist, ‘Wichita.’ Stone put on a tremendous show, keeping up the icy, serious front until she finally lowered her guard and revealed the fun, loving girl beneath. She may make a fairly stupid error in judgment towards the end of the movie, but I’m willing to forgive her for it on account of being such a hottie. If I could choose any actress to help survive against the crushing reality of a zombie apocalypse, it would be totally be Emma Stone. I’d just make sure she read the Zombie Survival Handbook first.

With her deliciously ginger good looks, girl-next door appeal, and excellent acting ability, Emma Stone has a bright career ahead of her. Superbad introduced the world to her, The House Bunny gave her the opportunity to shine as a major secondary character, Zombieland showed she could cut it as a kick-ass tough chick, and in Easy A, she proved that she had the chops to pull off a lead role in a comedy.

She has a few projects in the pipelines, including a supporting role in Easy A director Will Gluck’s Friends With Benefits and a lead role in the film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s 2009 novel The Help, but the one I’m most excited for is the Spider-Man reboot. She’ll be playing Gwen Stacy, the ill-fated (and blonde!) love interest of Peter Parker. If there’s one thing I love more than zombies, it’s comic books, and Emma Stone seems intent on cementing herself as my dream girl.

Thank you for being a part of the first installment (of many) of Some Like It Hot. Join me next week as we take a deeper look at the lovely and exotic Rosario Dawson!

Second Opinion: Emma Stone captured my attention the day I saw Superbad in theaters. I was concerned with being enamored with someone playing a high school girl, so much so that I quickly went to IMDB to reassure myself she was of age. Once I shook the creepy off me, I became entranced with her calm collective cool, cat like eyes and her “smoke two packs a day” rasp.

But I’ve been hurt by sultry red heads before. Lindsay Lohan left a hole in my heart with her awful roles and severe daddy issues that I swore I’d never let it happen again. It wasn’t until Zombieland that I gave in.  Her cold yet cool demeanor, the way she held a shotgun, the way she went on about how much she loves Bill Murray, I was helpless. It got to a point that I started to hate Jesse Eisenburg for trying to get his grubby little paws on her.

She’s cute, charming, and most importantly funny. It’s hard enough for women in this industry to break out of the eye candy role, but Ms. Stone is a rare breed of beautiful women who have the acting chops and comedic timing to hang with the boys. May Emma Stone help us forget Lindsay Lohan ever existed and redeem gingers (fake or real) around the world. – Andres Bolivar
