Sony neither confirms nor denies Spider-Man 3 casting rumors

0

For the past few days, rumors have been circulating that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would be joining Tom Holland in the upcoming Spider-Man 3 from Marvel and Sony. With the confirmation that Jamie Foxx and Benedict Cumberbatch had been cast for the project, it did make sense if the plotline of this new “Home” Spidey would feature a multiverse storyline. While we still don’t have a concrete answer, Sony has at least plugged this leak for the time being.

Speaking to ET Canada, a Sony representative stated, “Those rumored castings are not confirmed.” As you can tell, that statement neither confirms nor denies the possibility, but it does tell us one thing: it’s not 100% happening. All the pieces are there (and I even speculated about it when Dr. Strange was announced), but let’s not jump to conclusions about Spider-Man 3.

Personally, I think this probably is happening. The stage was already set with the cameo appearance of J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Far From Home. While that was more a nod to the character’s past cinematic exploit, it could also be the exact same man that showed up in Sam Raimi’s films. Into the Spiderverse is also hugely popular among Marvel fans and Disney would obviously want to capitalize on that kind of popularity.
