Spider-Man 3 will include Dr. Strange as Peter’s mentor

Spider-Man

Last week’s story about Jamie Foxx joining Spider-Man 3 suddenly makes a lot of sense. In a new report from The Hollywood Reporter (which broke the Electro news), the publication has confirmed that Dr. Strange will be featured as Peter Parker’s mentor in the upcoming MCU sequel. Benedict Cumberbatch will be reprising the role and this almost certainly signals some kind of multiverse storyline for the web-slinger’s next outing.

The next outing for Strange will be Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is set to begin filming this month. The film will likely tie directly into Spider-Man 3, which is still unnamed -though will feature “Home” somewhere in the title-. Sony and Marvel are set to begin filming Spidey later this month, so the pieces are definitely adding up.

Now, I wouldn’t necessarily expect something like a live-action Into the Spiderverse, but it would be really neat to see. With DC going for its own multiverse storyline where multiple Batman’s appear, Marvel has a unique opportunity to not only continue Spider-Man’s story but include past actors to give them a proper send-off.

At the very least, this move shows that Marvel isn’t going to simply ride on its coattails for Phase 4. Spidey and Strange teaming up could lead to a more cosmic and unique phase than what we’ve previously seen.
