Spring Breakers is getting a sequel because money

Because of its success on home video, talk of a sequel to last year’s Spring Breakers has begun. The film, officially titled Spring Breakers: The Second Coming, won’t involve Harmony Korine (writer and director of the original project), but instead will be written by Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting) and directed by Jonas Akerlund (Spun).

The film is still very early on (it’s currently being shopped around), no word on new (or possibly returning) cast, and only has a logline:

The Spring Breakers do battle with an extreme militant Christian sect that attempts to convert them.

The fact a sequel idea exists already destroys what’s so special about the original. The original had no characters (only vapid shells fabulously portrayed by great actors), and only works because it didn’t really have a story at all. It was just a series of exaggerated events. This is already heading in the wrong direction.
