Star Trek 3’s villainy said to be provided by Idris Elba

What’s this? Two Idris Elba stories in a many day? These times we live in are bountiful, and we must be grateful for as long as they last. Such fortune flows rarely to these shores.

The last two Star Trek movies are two of my least favourite movies ever made, and yet the recent Fast and Furious movies are some of my favourites, so understandably my feelings of anticipation for Star Trek 3 are somewhat mixed. Justin Lin’s directing, and the writing team has completely changed, so maybe, just maybe, this will actually be a Star Trek movie that feels like its from the same franchise that I fell in love with as a child.

I mean, it won’t be, but maybe it’ll be a fun action movie nonetheless. Idris Elba is said to be taking over from Benedict Cumberbatch as the requisite British Villain, which is a step up in casting as far as I’m concerned. Aside from that, details are low on just what on earth this movie is going to be, but there’s more signs pointing to ‘good’ than there were on Into Darkness so cautious optimism is the mood at my desk.
