Star Trek: Into Darkness releasing earlier after sell out

So it appears that Star Trek: Into Darkness‘s special IMAX Wednesday screenings went kind of quickly and they’re all sold out. That fact means that the studios can’t make anymore money off of ticket sales for the opening weekend. Or can they?

Thanks to the success of the early IMAX screenings Paramount has announced that they would like to have more money and are thus bumping up the wide release of the film a day. It was previously scheduled to open next Friday, the 17th, but will now open wide next Thursday, the 16th. This gives the film an extra day to pummel whatever records it wants to attempt to pummel. Judging by how quickly the IMAX screenings sold out we’re probably looking at a big success for the series, at least in terms of money.
