It is uncommon (but certainly not unheard of) for networks to renew a show before a season airs. When it happens, it demonstrates a large amount of confidence in the show by the powers-that-be. It is a solid indicator that the show is coming together and meeting expectations of quality. It’s very encouraging to me that this happened.
I could not be more excited for this series. I was born and raised a Trekkie. At a very young age, The Next Generation captured my imagination. I dreamed of one day going out among the stars and seeing the universe. Of course, that won’t happen in my lifetime, but I can certainly experience it through science fiction. And Star Trek is the greatest of science fiction.
Star Trek Picard Season 1 will premiere on CBS All-Access on January 23, 2020. It will have a 10-episode first season.
