Steven Soderberg made a silent cut of Raiders of the Lost Ark

Steven Soderberg has had some time on his hands after “retiring,” and with that time he’s been tinkering with the art of film by practicing doing weird and fun stuff. His latest project is turning Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark into a silent, black and white film. It is disturbingly impressive how well it works.

The director did it as a project to learn more about staging, even going as far as adapting the score to help us focus on how each shot and cut is made in order to tell the story. It’s quite striking visually and, man, does Indy look good in black and white. You can read his full explanation and watch the video right here. Thanks most likely to copyright issues it isn’t embeddable.
