Super Mario Bros: the independent movie

At larger film festivals it’s common to have short films – called “bumpers” – played before the longer movies. These are often shown for comic relief as kind of openers for the serious films. This year’s SXSW Film bumpers are now available on their Youtube channel, including one particularly awesome parody of real life Super Mario Bros.

Now, this is not the first recent Super Mario Bros parody, but I think that they did a really awesome job with this. Especially with casting the various characters. I particularly like how Bowser and his minions are snotty hipster jerks. Also the down-on-his-luck Mario character is such a fun breakaway from the mindless-do-gooder that Mario usually is.
