Surprise! Sebastian Stan will be in Avengers: Infinity War

In a shocking bit of casting news, THR reports that Sebastian Stan, a co-star in all three Captain America movies, will return for Avengers: Infinity War, the next installment of the uber-franchise’s flagship sub-franchise, due in 2018. He’ll reprise his role as James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes, a.k.a. the Winter Soldier. The tidbit of news came in a report that Stan is joining the cast of We Have Always Lived in the Castle. Here’s the relevant bit:

Stan is coming off of Captain America: Civil War, one of the year’s more acclaimed movies that has grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide. The actor…will shoot Avengers: Infinity War early next year.

Seriously though, this isn’t really surprising at all. Infinity War will reportedly feature close to 70 characters – though granted, that report came when that title technically applied to two movies. Additionally, Captain America: Civil War left the character in stasis, both literally and figuratively. Our boy Steve Rogers left him with T’Challa, a.k.a. the Black Panther, in his homeland of Wakanda, until they could come up with a way to keep Bucky from being controlled by his Winter Soldier programming (some speculation as suggested this may be a set up for an appearance in next year’s Black Panther solo flick).

So yeah, expect the Marvel Universe’s best bromance to continue the next time the Avengers suit up for battle when Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. The follow up, which is currently untitled but is still expected to act as a continuation of Infinity War, will drop just about a year later, on May 3, 2019. In the meantime, Marvel fans have Doctor Strange to look forward to, which drops Nov. 4.
