Teaser for HBO’s Westworld asks you to question your reality

Hey, check it out – now you can see the trailer for HBO’s upcoming series Westworld without having to sit through the True Detective finale. The 30-second glimpse of the show, based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film of the same name, shows off the series’ off-kilter wild west vibe. HBO describes the series as “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.” Like the film that inspired it, Westworld is set in a futuristic theme park styled after the wild west where androids create havoc and terror for the guests.

That’s a weird premise, but weird in a good way (better than “basing your show on an old movie that was pretty terrible,” which is weird in a bad way). The show’s got enough star power that it just might work – including James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris. It drops sometime next year; take a peek at the trailer and see what you think.
