Ted takes GI Joe’s release date, lunch money

When Paramount pulled G.I. Joe Retaliation from its June 29th release slot, it didn’t count on one thing: Seth McFarlane. Universal has slipped right into the newly opened release date with the Mark Wahlberg-helmed Ted.

G.I. Joe’s release was moved to March 29th, giving Paramount nine extra months to turn a cruddy movie into a cruddy movie in 3D. Meanwhile, Ted will have free rein of the male demographic in June, competing with People Like Us, Magic Mike and Madea’s Witness Protection. This is a much better spot for a movie about a lewd, bear-drinking teddy bear, instead of its original July 13th slot, which was tightly squeezed between The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises.
