Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles getting a sequel because money

It’s hard to be cynical or excited about announcements like these because these days when a big franchise reboot or new property is announced, it’s almost guaranteed that any given studio is planning at least three or four more. In fact, it’s such a given, these studios never waste time confirming sequels, often confirming their existence after a win at the box office.

After Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles raked in a respectable $65 million (and about $94 million worldwide) at the box office this past weekend, Paramount has set the date for the sequel. Releasing June 3, 2016, the sequel will be written by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec and will still be produced by Michael Bay. Hilariously enough, there’s no word on Johnathan Liebesman returning as director yet. Expect more details in the coming months.
