The Academy Awards gets a poster

Ratings for The Academy Awards have been dropping and interest in the show isn’t really picking up speed. Maybe it’s because we don’t need the Oscars anymore, but even if that’s true the Academy ain’t going down without a fight. The first step: a poster. OK, so the poster speaks to bigger themes that the Academy Award are trying to tackle. Most important of those themes is nostalgia.

The new tagline clearly wants us all to remember the important part that movies have played in our lives and the eight Academy Award winning films — Gone with the Wind (1939), Casablanca (1943), Giant (1956), The Sound of Music (1965), The Godfather (1972), Driving Miss Daisy (1989), Forrest Gump (1994) and Gladiator (2000) — displayed in the background are clearly all time faves of filmgoers. Interestingly the poster doesn’t have many films from recent years despite the fact that the academy has been desperately trying to attract younger viewers. Of course this poster probably isn’t going to be the big tipping point for them anyway.
