The Arrested Development movie: still “happening”

0

Look, kids, an Arrested Development movie will probably never happen. That hurts you as much as it hurts me. Since the series ended, the actors and writers and everyone that made the show so special have moved in too many different directions. Michael Cera will hold it up. Opie’s gonna hold it up. Mitchell Hurwitz himself will hold it up. Jeffrey Tambor will probably die before shooting starts. So news like this comes with a caveat: don’t get your damn hopes up.

In a recent interview, show creator Hurwitz said that he had finally begun working on an Arrested Development script with the intention of finishing the script, shooting it, and releasing it by the end of the year. For fairly obvious reasons, that is a ludicrous goal. Also, last August, Hurwitz said the script was 50% complete. So a film that was 50% complete six months ago is just now being started.

Look, I loved Arrested Development like a one-armed motherloving son. It ended, and it ended beautifully. There is no need for an additional film, and frankly, given his post-AD work, I wouldn’t trust Hurwitz to make it anyway.
