I was once a huge fan of Garth Ennis, having followed and loved his complete run of The Punisher. For me The Punisher is Garth Ennis. There’s no separating the two. When The Boys came out, I read the first volume but something about it didn’t strike me, didn’t quite click. I’m not sure just what it was. What I do know, however, is that Amazon Prime’s newest trailer for its streaming adaptation of the comic very much clicks with me.
I’ve never seen a woman face-sit a man so hard his head exploded before, but I am a better person for having seen it now.
Beyond that there’s a baby doll with laser vision, a costumed superhero pretending to get a blow job from one of those playground dinosaur rockers, and a surprise dolphin. I’m not sure if admitting that this is from the same people that did Sausage Party is a great idea, but what I’m seeing looks pretty bloody, cavalier, and just plain fun.
The Boys is set to explode onto your streaming screens this summer on July 26, 2019.
