The Dark Tower officially casts Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey

I was pretty confident that this round of “we’re making a Dark Tower” movie was going to end in the same way all the others did: cancellation. However, they got a director and then there were casting rumors and now we have actual confirmed cast. This is actually happening folks. Time to break out some of Stephen King’s best writing once again for a refresher.

Director Nikolaj Arcel, while speaking with EW, confirmed that Idris Elba will be taking on the lead role of the gunslinger, Roland, and Matthew McConaughey will be playing the villain Walter Padick (the man in black). The casting is absolutely fantastic and gives Elba the major movie franchise he so richly deserves. McConaughey has been needing to play a villain for a bit now, and his southern draw and charm are perfect for this role.

Barring God coming down and once again destroying our hopes and dreams filming for the movie will begin in just two months so that it can release on January 13th, 2017. That might be the only worrisome aspect of this as it shows a lack of faith in the movie since January is usually a dumping ground for crap.
