The Director’s Guild Awards nominees are in and unsurprising

0

The nominees for the Director’s Guild of America Awards have been released, and let me tell you, there are no surprises here. These are five of the best pictures of the year, directed by four of the best living directors and one that’s merely ok but made a terrific movie. There’s usually a curveball in all of the various film awards nominees that get kicked around this time of year, but I can safely say that this is the safest DGA list I could imagine. Check out the nominees below the cut.

Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan

David Fincher, The Social Network

Tom Hooper, The King’s Speech

Christopher Nolan, Inception

David O. Russell, The Fighter

No disrespect meant at all to Tom Hooper, but I wouldn’t necessarily put him in the same league as Aronofsky or Fincher. The King’s Speech was a wonderfully directed film(check out Xander's review here), however, and he deserves the nomination wholeheartedly.
