The Evil Dead remake’s first cut received an NC-17 rating

News that I’m sure will please fans of everything blood and gore, director Fede Alvarez recently Tweeted that his first cut of the Evil Dead remake that was submitted to the MPAA came back with an NC-17 rating. He said he was “proud” that it received the infamous rating, but that they were obviously going to do take it back to the cutting room to score an ‘R’ for all of the kiddies. The ‘kiddies’ part are my words, not his.

I’m sure I’ll catch some serious flack for this later, but I’m one of the few people who has never seen Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead, so everything I’ve seen of the remake has been pretty awesome because I’m seeing it with the eyes of an innocent. I’m sure there are those out there who take the NC-17 rating as a sign that Alvarez is on the right track, but there’s more to a good horror movie than blood and guts. Nevertheless, I’m remaining very positive with only a slight twinge of pessimism. Let’s hope he nails it when the film sees wide release this coming April.
