The first Dune trailer is here with release still planned for theaters

Dune has had a rough history in the film world. After the source book was published, an adaptation initially failed to launch even with cinematic powerhouses of Alejandro Jodorowsky and  Ridley Scott backing it. Then the David Lynch attempt a decade later was a certified box office bomb. Now the new face of science fiction Denis Villeneuve is stepping up to the plate to try his deft hand at the storied science fiction novel. To say the adaptation is the most anticipated for science fiction fans would be a bit of an under sell, even with the fact that we haven’t seen any footage. Until now.

Today Warner Bros. released the first trailer for the epic science fiction film that they still plan to release in theaters this year. The footage looks amazing and it feels like 2020 is the perfect time for something like this to come out to really put a mirror up to our own world and make us all think about how we live our life.

As for the plans to release in theaters…I can’t say that’s the best move. I love the theater experience as much as anyone else but I also will not feel safe sitting in a room full of people I don’t know until a viable Covid-19 vaccine is available and coursing through my veins.

As all things through this year, only time will tell if this ends up getting released in theaters on time or whether it gets a last minute delay. As of now the movie is still planned to release on December 18, with a spin-off TV show planned for the future. Dune will boast a fantastic ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.
