The good Oldboy is getting a 4K release and returning to UK cinemas

There are times where I really hate how many good movies are given updated rereleases in the United Kingdom. I had to watch from the sidelines as an updated release of 2001: A Space Odyssey was released in the UK and over here in the states, we had to wait for over a year and it barely toured the country. Now I must abide a release of one of my favorite movies of all time getting a theatrical rerelease and 4K home media restoration.

That’s right masochists, if you are ready for some high definition pain then you too can experience the 4K restoration of Park Chan-wook’s revenge masterpiece Oldboy when it releases in cinemas on August 2. The caveat being of course that it is only in the UK. The restoration will also be available for Region B home media on August 25 and can be purchased at the official website.

I’d ask when America would be seeing this restoration but I think we have a few more years left of penance for Spike Lee’s abomination.
