The Great Gatsby as opening film for Cannes Film Festival

The Great Gatsby, directed by Baz Luhrmann, has been selected to be the opening film at this year’s 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Hopefully it will include less awful music than the first trailer and the second trailer! Cast members from The Great Gatsby are expected to show up. So look for Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, and maybe even Jay-Z who did the score for the film.

This won’t be the first time that Luhrmann has had a film open for the Cannes Film Festival. Moulin Rouge! served as the opening film for the festival back in 2001. Luhrmann also had his first directorial feature, Strictly Ballroom screen at the Cannes Film Festival back in 1992.

The film was to originally set to open back in December 2012. Warner Bros. pushed the release date of the film to May 10th and it will open in 3D.
