The Hobbit extended edition coming late 2013

Remember when Peter Jackson put out the extended editions of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King a year after each of their respective theatrical releases? It’s going to happen again with The Hobbit trilogy. This should be interesting since the extended cuts of The Two Towers and The Return of the King were superior to the theatrical versions. (Scientific fact.)

The people over at Movies.com noticed this news yesterday. The extended edition of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is listed as a Q4 release by Warner Bros. in 2013 as part of the studio’s 90th anniversary celebration. Also slated for release are the Dark Knight Trilogy Ultimate Collection, the Mad Max movies on Blu-Ray, a 100 WB film collection, and commemorative editions of The Wizard of Oz, Enter the Dragon, The Exorcist, The Right Stuff, and A Christmas Story. I’ve included the WB’s release calendar in the gallery.

So keep an eye out for extended cut of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in late 2013, the extended cut of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in late 2014, and the extended cut of The Hobbit: There and Back Again in late 2015.
