That was a close one! For a minute there, I really thought Disney’s take on The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer was really going to be a thing. As it turns out, Disney has delayed the movie due to “budgetary concerns”.
See, the movie’s budget was originally around $250 million. $250 million for a freaking Western. That’s just slightly ridiculous, and Disney executives agreed. And because The Lone Ranger hasn’t been relevant for sixty years only served to prove Disney’s point: This flick was a risky move, with no guarantee of becoming profitable. As of now, Disney is working with the producers to dial back the budget a bit, so don’t look for Silver and Tonto until 2014. At least, that’s my guess.[via Variety]
