The next season of Mythbusters will be its last

Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman have been blowing stuff up real good for 13 seasons on Mythbusters. To date, it’s the longest-running show on Discovery Channel. In its first couple years, it was also one of the more enjoyable shows on basic cable.

Well, word has come that season 14 of Mythbusters will be its last. The final season kicks off on January 9, 2016.

Science ‘splosions are going to be a little sadder.

I remember watching Mythbusters a lot when it first debuted. They used to have weekend-long marathons, which was good for days of cleaning and busywork. The show is years past its peak, and admittedly I haven’t been a regular viewer since 2008 or earlier. In my last bout of watching regularly, I noticed that the myths and urban legends gave way to testing movie special effects and seeing if viral videos were plausible. Then the build team of Kari Byron, Tory Belleci, and Grant Imahara left Mythbusters some time last year.

I’ll probably tune in to a few episodes of Mythbusters‘ final season. It’ll be like saying hello to old friends… if your old friends blow stuff up for science… and only have a professional friendship… and three other old friends are missing.
