The Nun scares up a record breaking weekend for Conjuring franchise

Look, I know the whole Conjuring cinematic horror universe has been around for a bit now, but I wouldn’t have called it anything serious. The Nun changed that. It’s now event cinema, not just another horror film. The movie’s $131 million global box office delivered the second largest September opening ever and it’s $53.5 million domestic box destroys any of the other films in the franchise easily.

It’s not those totals that make the CCU a thing, though, it’s the fact that people showed up even though the movie wasn’t that good. Not that all the films in the series have been that great, but The Nun was pretty weak aside from being pretty on the eyes. Still, people showed up. It was a testament to the power of the franchise. Folks are going to turn up when it’s connected to The Conjuring

This also marks the fifth straight week that WB has held the number one spot, and the fourth week they’ve held onto the 1 and 2 spots. No studio has done that in 25 years. So congrats to them for making money.
