There’s a Hobbit-themed menu at Denny’s for some reason

One year way back when I was an undergrad, I spent a lot of time at Denny’s in the wee hours of the morning. It was close to my dorm, it was quiet enough, and it made for great people-watching. Example: one of the waitresses wore sloppy lipstick up to her nose and was convinced that The Simpsons was Satan’s vessel to corrupt the morals of America. (I am not making this up.)

The last thing that Denny’s ever screamed to me was “The Hobbit,” but it turns out there’s some peculiar cross-promotion going on this year. Yes, from November 6th to January 15th, there will be a Hobbit-themed menu at Denny’s, just as Tolkien had envisioned. The menu items include:

  • Hobbit-Hole Breakfast (first breakfast)
  • Pumpkin Patch Pancakes (second breakfast)
  • Shire Sausage Skillet (elevenses)
  • Seed Cake French Toast (first diabetes)
  • Lone-Lands Campfire Cookie Milkshake (second diabetes)
  • Lonely Mountain Treasure (luncheon)

First Showing has a full write-up of the unexpected union of Denny’s and The Hobbit. In the gallery are some pics of the food. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes out December 14th.
