There’s no Strange Viggo, but we may see the Ant-Man test

While Dr. Strange may still show up in Thor: The Dark World, we won’t see him battling anyone in the buff in a bathhouse. Marvel exec Victoria Alonso completely shut down the rumor that Viggo Mortensen was attached to cameo as Dr. Strange in the upcoming sequel, saying they’d love to work with him in the future, but no such talks have been made. This makes sense, as Mortensen doesn’t seem like the sort of actor who’d want to sign one of Marvel’s notoriously long contracts of service to the Marvel cinematic universe. It’s taken him years to be known as someone other than Aragorn, so I completely understand that he’d not want to lock himself into another genre role.

On the flip side, Alonso also mentioned that Marvel was considering releasing Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man test reel screened at this year’s Comic Con. It’s little more than a proof of concept reel, apparently, but it would do a lot for skeptics that don’t think Ant-Man would make a viable action hero for movies. I hope it hits soon, because it went over really well at Comic Con, and I want to see what we’re maybe getting from Edgar Wright.
