This latest short clip from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker showcases some awful dialogue

Over the course of the newer Star Wars trilogy, many viewers have complained about lackluster dialogue and crappy jokes. While I’ll admit that some of the lines in The Last Jedi were groan-inducing, I haven’t had a particular problem with any specific utterances from these films. This latest clip from The Rise of Skywalker, though, may have made my eyes roll out of my head. I’m not sure how I’m even typing right now.

This is emblematic of what I’d like to call “Avengers dialogue.” In basically every mainstream, crowd-pleasing film following the success of the MCU, characters try to quip with each other on a constant basis. It leads to moments like what you see here, where each character repeats “THEY CAN FLY NOW” as if you didn’t catch it the first time. Yeah, they can fly. I have eyes and can see that for myself…although my eyes are now dangling from their sockets.

I’d also like to point out how impractical those bikes look, but I’m kind of just nitpicking here. I think the excess of Star Wars in recent times has made even this final chapter of the saga boring. I want to be invested and see the conclusion, but I also hope that Disney doesn’t continue to whore out this franchise for all it’s worth. That’s being too optimistic.
