Tom Hanks cast in the Wachowski’s Cloud Atlas

How are the Wachowski’s still making movies? Let’s be real here, they haven’t really made a good movie. Sure, The Matrix had it’s moments, but beyond those moments, what was left? Lame dialogue and uninspired acting disguised by slow-mo gun battles and Cowboy Curtis. But I digress. Apparently, someone has allowed them to adapt the novel Cloud Atlas along with German writer/director Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run) with Tom Hanks taking the lead role.

The novel’s plot sounds interesting, but I don’t know how they’ll do the book justice on film. The official plot description is below.

Cloud Atlas is an epic story of humankind in which the actions and consequences of our lives impact one another throughout the past, present and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a savior and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries to inspire a revolution.

What do you lot think? Could this be the Wachowski’s first good movie, or will we forever condemn them for Speed Racer? Only time will tell, production starts in September, with a 2012 release looking like the obvious bet.
