Tom Hanks will play Mr. Rogers in a new biopic

I told y’all we needed more Fred Rogers in our life and thanks to TriStar Pictures we are going to get it! Today it was announced that Tom Hanks had been cast in the upcoming biopic about Fred Roger’s titled You Are My Friend. Based on the real-life friendship between the ever-optimistic Mr. Rogers and the pessimistic journalist Tom Junod, the screenplay has been languishing about in Hollywood after being placed on the 2013 Black List, a curated list of the best-unproduced screenplays of the year

The movie which is slated to begin shooting in September will portray the relationship between the famous children’s TV host, and the journalist assigned to report on his life. No word yet on who will be cast as Junod but as I said in my previous article about the Mr. Rogers documentary that is coming out later this year, we need a shining light of hope like Mr. Rogers right now to help drive off the darkness.
