I haven’t read a single Judge Dredd comic or issue of 2000 A.D. featuring the man. It’s one of my gaping holes when it comes to comic book knowledge. My only experience with Mega City One’s premiere judge comes from the Sylvester Stallone movie, and let me tell you, that picture is the definition of a guilty pleasure movie. Every time I used to watch it, I felt like I was sneaking porn into my family home’s basement. Even now, I still don’t own a copy, though the moment it gets a US Blu-ray release, that’s going to change.
Anyhoo, the first trailer for Dredd starring Karl Urban and Geoffcrush Olivia Thirlby is out and in the world. I am not going to call it Dredd 3D because that is a ludicrous naming convention. The movie is called Dredd, damn it. It looks like it could be a fun time. It calls The Raid to mind a bit, though Dredd was scripted some time before The Raid‘s release. I could see this one pretty much going either way, quality-wise, but I’m intrigued and can’t wait to see more.
