Trailer: Drift

As much as I hate to say it, Sam Worthington is “that guy” of the movie industry. He’s starred in huge blockbusters (Avatar, Clash of the Titans, Terminatior Salva…oh wait, that one doesn’t count) and yet remains completely forgettable. I have never had a conversation with anyone discussing Sam Worthington’s career. I’ve never had a discussion where Sam Worthington was even close to being a topic. The guy is just a specter of the acting world, and I’ve always felt bad for him in that regard. But every cloud has a silver lining, and maybe Drift will be a more intimate vehicle for Sam to flex his acting muscles.

Of course, once you watch the trailer you’ll realize it isn’t and he doesn’t.

Drift is based on the true story of the Kelly brothers as they make a name for themselves by producing handmade surf boards and products out of their own home in 1970’s Australia, all the while hunting for the “perfect wave”. Worthington plays a surf photographer who comes across the brothers and befriends them. Starring Xavier Samuel, Myles Pollard, and Leslie-Ann Brandt, Drift will float it’s way stateside sometime next year. In the meantime we can all go see that Gerard Butler surfing movie. That’s a joke though, so don’t actually go watch it.
