By Even though it has been finished since 2008, Fireflies in the Garden is only now coming out on October 14, 2011. That’s kind of puzzling, considering that the film features a star-studded cast of Willem Dafoe, Ryan Reynolds, Julia Roberts, Emily Watson, Carrie-Ann Moss, Hayden Panettiere, and Shannon Lucio.
Fireflies in the Garden is a semi-autobiographical film by writer and director Dennis Lee. It details how the Taylor family deals with the death of the family matriarch (Roberts), including the tension between the father and son, played by Dafoe and Reynolds. It looks like it could be a heart-breaking drama about a family getting over their differences in the wake of a mother’s death, but the amount of time they’ve been sitting on this is concerning. Here’s hoping it was for some stupid reason and not because they knew they had a stinker on their hands!
