Trailer: Killing Them Softly

The trailer for Andrew Dominik’s (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) latest film, Killing Them Softly, has come out. Premiering at this year’s Cannes, the film adaptation of George V. Higgins’ Cogan’s Trade stars Brad Pitt as a mob enforcer investigating a poker game heist. Co-starring with Pitt are gangster staples Ray Liotta (Goodfellas) and James Gandolfini (The Sopranos). Also added to the mix is The Cabin in the Woods megastar Richard Jenkins.

What’s more apparent in this trailer that wasn’t clear in our first clip of the film is the comedic tone of the film. At one point in the trailer, a car explodes into a fireball, knocking somebody away that’s standing too closely. It’s a small touch, but considering the typical overdramatic fare of most gangster films, a sense of Tarantino-like humor is much appreciated.

Killing Them Softly will hit theaters on October 19. I’m surprised I made it this far without cracking a Fugees reference. Wait… dammit.
