Trailer: Maniac

0

Here’s a little tease of the forthcoming remake of Maniac, directed by Franck Khalfoun and starring Elijah Wood. (Alexandre Aja is also a co-writer and producer on the film.) It’s NSFW due to some nudity, but giving it a watch, the remake does have a good amount of rancid scumminess that ought to make it work.

Wood’s still not as immediately freaky-looking as the late Joe Spinell, but maybe that’s to his advantage. I also don’t think any setting will ever be as potentially scuzzy on film as the NYC of the late 1970s and early 1980s, so I wonder how that’ll play into the feel of the remake.

Apparently this Maniac trailer is missing some footage at the end, but we’ll keep an eye out for the full and corrected version of the trailer so we can share the vileness with you. Maniac debuts at Cannes next week. After the cut, the trailer for the original 1980 version of Maniac for comparison (also NSFW).
