Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is an apocalyptic film… with a twist. The world faces its mortality as a large meteor threatens to hit the earth. Facing the end of the world, Dodge’s (Steve Carell) wife leaves him. Wishing to reunite with his high school sweetheart before it’s too late, he embarks on a journey with his neighbor, Penny (Keira Knightley), who wishes to reunite with her family.
The film is screenwriter Lorene Scafaria’s (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) directorial debut. The cast is rounded out by a number of notable actors, including Gillian Jacobs (Community), Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine), and Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille). I’m on the fence right now, but it didn’t hurt seeing Jacobs and Knightley make out. Spoiler alert!
