Trailer: The Lady

0

Of all the foreign actresses who have made the move to Hollywood I think Michelle Yeoh might be one of the best, which makes me very excited for The Lady. As the trailer shows the film is about Aung San Suu Kyi, the woman at the core of the movement for democracy in Burma, and her husband, played by the wonderful David Thewlis.

Of course it’s also directed by Luc Besson, who might be the master of milking great performances out of actors while avoiding melodrama and creating films that can only be described as awesome. A historical film will be a departure for the action/sci-fi direction, but he’s ability to capture massive ideas and boil them down into his characters should fit quite well into the film.

This will also be his first serious shot as the Oscars in a while as the film is doing the festival rounds and then getting the limited release it needs so that it can make it into this year’s awards season.
