I was drawn to The Possession because, according to the synopsis, it features a demon-esque spirit from Judaism called a dybbuk. It’s not exactly a demon, more of an evil ghost really, but it’s nice to see a possession horror movie doing something other than the usual faux-Christian mythology as an excuse to tell a half-baked spooky story plasted with “BASED ON A TRUE STORY WHERE GHOSTS AND MAGIC AND STUFF IS REAL.”
Instead, this looks like a possession movie with faux-Jewish mythology as an excuse to tell a half-baked spooky story plastered with “BASED ON A TRUE STORY WHERE DYBBUKS AND MAGIC ARE REAL, MAYBE.”
Seriously, f**k possession movies.
