Trailer: Win Win

0

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who liked Sideways and those who didn’t. I didn’t, and I’m not the biggest Paul Giamatti fan as a result. Despite his ups (Lady in the Water) and downs (American Splendor), the man does have talent. Unfortunately, if he continues to take middling roles, he won’t be able to sway those who are still on the fence.

The trailer for his next movie, Win Win (which you can see below the cut) made its debut recently. It stars Giamatti as a lawyer by day, high school wrestling coach by night. Honestly, it seems like typical, generic indie fodder. But who knows? Maybe it’ll be a sleeper hit and 2011’s comedy Oscar bait… or maybe not.

The synopsis reads, “Disheartened attorney Mike Flaherty (Giamatti), who moonlights as a high school wrestling coach, stumbles across a star athlete (Alex Shaffer) through some questionable business dealings while trying to support his family. Just as it looks like he will get a double payday, the boy’s mother (Melanie Lynskey) shows up fresh from rehab and flat broke, threatening to derail everything.”

If Win Winsounds like it’d be a win-win…
