Two clips from Michael Haneke’s Amour

Amour Movie CLIP - Piano (2012) - Palm d'Or Winner Movie HD

One of my biggest regrets during the New York Film Festival was missing Michael Haneke’s Amour. Winner of this year’s Palme d’Or, it tells the story of an elderly couple dealing with the debilitating effects of a stroke. (Haneke’s previous film, The White Ribbon, also won the Palme d’Or, and deservedly so.) The film is Austria’s official selection for the Best Foreign Film Oscar.

This above clip is really stunning, and a great reveal about the nature of these people and this relationship. After the cut I’ve included a second clip from Amour. It’s not as striking as the one above, but it does suggest a potentially moving scene about to unfold.

Amour will hit theaters on December 19th, 2012. I’m sure we’ll have a review up around that time.
